Manuel Pellegrini

Manchester Citys 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace in their last match has called Manuel Pellegrini’s leadership into question, as City now sits in the fourth position in the Premier League standings, just seven points ahead of Liverpool.

While the defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace was a blow to the defending Premier league champions, they have been out of form for some time now.

The Blues have emerged victorious in just two of their last six league games, leaving them nine points behind Chelsea. This out of form play has left City in a position where retaining the Premier League crown will be virtually impossible.

Sunday’s battle with Manchester United is a pivotal one for City, and Pellegrini. If City were to emerge victorious, they would surpass their rivals in the standings and Pellegrini would recieve an important morale boost.

The Manchester City hierarchy still have confidence in the manager who brought them a Premier League title last year, but they are growing more impatient with each City loss.

The pressure is growing for Pellegrini to produce wins in the final seven matches. It is clear that City need to alter their strategy to produce wins, and Pellegrini will need to be the catalyst for that change in strategy.
