Manchester City's Joe Hart walks off the pitch dejected after the 3-2 defeat at Cardiff City Stadium

Sunday’s highly anticipated Manchester Derby turned out to be a complete spanking by a sizzling-hot Manchester United squad over a deficient Manchester City team.

The Red Devils ran circles around last year’s Premier League champions, taking the derby with ease, 4-2.

At first, City looked as if they were going to build on their recent dominance over United, as Sergio Aguero returned home a beautiful David Silva cross in the eighth minute. City’s excitement was short lived, as Ashley Young leveled the score with an impressive, spinning goal just six minutes later.

Once United matched City at 1-1, things got out of hand at Old Tafford. The Red Devils completely out-classed the Blues from there on out with subsequent unanswered goals from the likes of Marouane Fellaini, Juan Mata, and Chris Smalling.

Aguero scored again late to pull the match to 4-2, but it was nothing more than a consolation goal.

For both teams, the derby was simply an extension of each team’s recent form. Coming in, United had won five consecutive Premier League matches, while City came in struggling profusely, with Sunday’s loss marking their sixth defeat in their last eight contests.

The Blues’ loss on Sunday was also significant because it ended their utter dominance over United in recent years. City had won the last four derbies and were looking to make it five.

While it was City celebrating early, it was United who had the last laugh.
