Manchester City has closed the gap on rivals Manchester United at the top of the Premier League to five points, after beating West Brom 4-0 on Wednesday night.

The Etihad Stadium outfit gave Carlos Tevez his first start since the striker went AWOL, but it was countryman Sergio Aguero who opened the scoring after six minutes.

Three second half goals within the space of ten minutes ended the game as a competition, with Aguero, Tevez and David Silva all on target to complete the rout.

Roberto Mancini dismissed title talk and insisted that his side just want to pick up as many points as possible.

“No, it’s finished,” the Italian manager told Sky Sports.

“It’s important that we are now mathematically in a better position.

“Manchester United is a fantastic team, they have fantastic experience and I think they will win this title.

“But now we have 74 points, we are mathematically in the Champions League,” he stated.

Mancini went on to praise the returning Sergio Aguero, who he felt the team have missed over recent weeks.

“Sergio was in good form and against Stoke and against Sunderland he could have been very, very important.

“We lost Sergio for two important games and probably some important points. I am happy for him because he scored two goals and he is back for us,” the coach concluded.

City travel to take on Norwich at Carrow Road this Saturday.
