Controversial forward Carlos Tevez has returned to action for Manchester City reserves, playing 45 minutes in a friendly on Tuesday night.

The Argentina international has been involved in scandal at the Etihad Stadium over the last 12 months by asking to leave, refusing to come off the bench against Bayern Munich and then taking three months of unwarranted leave back in his homeland.

However, after failing to conclude a move to another club in January, Tevez is back in England and trying to be ready for contention for Roberto Mancini’s men after apologising for his actions.

The South American started a closed-doors friendly against Preston North End on Tuesday night at Carrington, but only last 45 minutes before being replaced by youngster Jordi Hiwula at the break.

Tevez’s inaction has seen a loss in match fitness, and Mancini has confirmed that he will consider the forward for the first team once he get into better shape.
